Our First Full Week!

I like to post pictures of the kids in action ~ learning in the classroom.  I'm always so excited to start the first full week and dive into the curriculum.  We have a wonderful new reading curriculum this year.  After a full week of teaching,  I have to say, I LOVE it!  All the leveled readers are beautifully illustrated and very interesting!  The shared reading this past week was about elephants.  The kids LOVED it!  Next week, we are learning about the hippo!

We are also using a new phonics program called "Zoo Phonics".  Hopefully, your children have told you about how each letter has a movement associated with it and we use the movements to practice our spelling words each week!  This is a great way for them to practice spelling at home as well!

Here is what our classroom looks like without the kiddos!

Did I mention we learned about elephants this week?  We also did a directive drawing of an elephant.  I hope to hang them up this week, once everyone finishes.

These kiddos are doing a noun sort and recording their answers on a recording sheet.

These kiddos are at the technology center on the Epic reading app.  I've assigned books on each kid's reading level and they find those books in their "mailbox" on the app.

Fast finishers are allowed to get a book from my class library and go somewhere to read.  This little girl loves to read!

I can't remember which center this was!  It looks like they are working hard at it!  I'm thinking it was a noun sort.

This was a listening center during our reading center rotation!

These boys were reading to each other after we finished our small group reading time.  We read the story together and then I asked the kids to read it again with a partner.

This is a view from my teacher table of the kids working at the noun sort center. The kids at my teacher table are reading a leveled reading book.

This is a math center.  This group of kids is working on addition.

These kids are at the technology center and they are working on the "Xtra Math" app.

These kids are working in a center on domino addition.

This sweet little group is at my teacher table and we are working on our math lesson in our math book for the day.

This is another view from my teacher table during math time!

I hope you enjoy seeing what your kids are doing in the classroom.  We worked really hard this past week.  I'm guessing they came home tired!  It's a struggle to get back into a routine.  I noticed that every day got a little bit better!  I'm looking forward to another great week of learning!

The most favorite thing about my classroom is who I share it with!  I love these kiddos!

My New Firsties

Every year, I like to take a "1st Day of First Grade" picture of all my new firsties.  This year, it is particularly important, due the fact parents cannot come into the building and snap photos of their kiddos.  Below, is my "New Ruff Crew" and I couldn't be more excited about sharing the classroom with them!

We made a craft of "David Learns the School Rules" after reading the story. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out!

Here are pictures of the kids playing a game called "Find a Friend Who...."

Then, the kids are so cute during Show-And-Tell.  I love it as well.  It is a great way for me to get to know them a little better!

Aren't they just the cutest kids that you've ever seen?!

I hope you've enjoyed seeing your kids "in action" in the classroom the first two days!  We also played "Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar?"  This was a good way to get to know each other.  They loved it so much that we had to play it twice!  Precious!
